The New Me
After PT school I took about 3 years off from coaching and was not involved in the sport much. When I came back to gymnastics, this time from a healthcare perspective, I walked into a sport in turmoil and in need of change.
This time around, there were some strong voices of change that had been brought to the forefront who were pushing some very exciting ideas.
What if we treat our gymnasts as people instead of machines?!? What a novel idea! For so long the philosophy in gymnastics has been, if they CAN work that hard, then they SHOULD work that hard. I remember hearing people say, “the gymnasts who made the Olympic team were not always the ones who were the most talented, but they were the ones whose bodies lasted the longest.”
How crazy is that?
With my new perspective, I was ready to help this wonderful sport change into a sport that created happy and healthy athletes and humans. Instead of grumpy, sore, and bitter retired gymnasts.
With the experiences that I have had and the knowledge that I gained through it all, I am ready to give back! Here are a few ways that I want to help my gymnastics family:
Hopefully, you can relate to my story, but if nothing else I hope these blog posts have let you see into my life and my motivation to help this sport into a beautiful New Era!
Now that you know me, I want to hear a little about you! Feel free to reach out to me, so I can know your story.
